Talks and training

BucksVision are able to provide talks to groups such as Women’s Institute members, Red Cross, St John Ambulance, Faith Groups, Church Groups, Clubs, Rotary and Round Table groups, Schools etc about the work that BucksVision do and how we support those with serious sight loss in the County of Buckinghamshire. We can cover subjects such as:

  • The history and early beginnings of BucksVision (formally known as Bucks Association for the Blind).
  • The Statutory Service provided for Bucks County Council.
  • The work of our Rehabilitation Officers.
  • The Charity side of the organisation.
  • Social activities such as Social Clubs, Craft Clubs, Bowling etc.
  • Our Volunteers and what they do.

We bring along:

  • Sim Specs - which when tried on, show the wearer what a person with that particular eye condition sees (Age Related Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Cataracts etc.).
  • Leaflets on the different eye conditions.
  • Bring a variety of different items of equipment that can help people to keep their independence for as long as possible.

Training

We are able to provide equality, diversity and sight loss awareness training to professional people such as Police, Fire & Rescue Service, Nurses, Ambulance staff, Residential Nursing Home staff, Care Workers, Occupational Therapists, retail staff, Local Authorities, Library staff, County Court & Magistrates Court staff, Prison and Probationary Officers, Social Workers, Colleges and students etc.

 

We can provide:

  • Information about the services provided by BucksVision.
  • Explain the Statutory Service provided by BucksVision’s qualified Rehabilitation Officers and staff.
  • Teach ‘Best Practice’ guiding techniques.
  • Watch a useful Video presenting people with sight loss and how they manage on a daily basis.
  • Sim Specs - which when tried on, show the wearer what a person with that particular eye condition sees (Age Related Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Cataracts etc.).
  • Provide Training Packs which contain useful information and Case Studies.
  • Explain how to deal with those who have sight loss and what needs to be remembered.
  • Provide leaflets on the different eye conditions.
  • Bring a variety of different items of equipment that can help people to keep their independence for as long as possible.
