We now have the Working Age Activity Group, nicknamed the WAAG’s, which is based in the south of the county. It’s formation in 2010 was initially motivated by some of the more active and younger BucksVision volunteers. It is a small group of members who attend local events and engage in activities together. Geographically the members and volunteers currently come from an area covering Taplow in the west across to Iver Heath in the east and from Beaconsfield south to the border.
In 2011 the WAAG’s organised 17 activities and the average member attendance was around 8. Due to the nature of the activities the ratio of volunteers to members is often 1:1, although at some events like the trips to the theatre, it can be 1:2. The group actually has around 15 members but not everyone attends every event. Members can choose what they want to join in with, attending occasionally or as frequently as they like. The group meets every 3 months for lunch for a chat and to plan their activities. By involving the members at an early stage, the eventual take up for a particular event is normally good. Concerts at the Wycombe Swan are very popular as are guided walks and tours. Last summer two day trips were organised, one to Iver Nature Study Centre the other to The Watercress Steam railway in Hampshire. Further adventurous activities are planned for 2012.
Having completed their first year together, the WAAG’s are now hoping to expand their membership and volunteer team in the coming year. They would be pleased to hear from anyone interested in joining or knowing more about their activities. They are particularly keen to expand their presence to other parts of the county.
More details about future events can be found on BucksVision facebook page. To find out more information about the group you can phone the office in Meadowcroft to be put in contact with one of the teams co-ordinators.
